The company was started by the current MD in 1986, and has grown consistently over the past 25 years . The company`s goal is to continue to expand by introducing a steady stream of new and innovative products. The current principal market is in construction and civil engineering, both in the UK and overseas. Our standard products are, road cones, safety barriers and composite trench covers.
Job Description
The Product Designer will project manage the development process and be responsible for liasing with customers and end-users to design new ways of solving their safety issues. Coordination with external designers and engineers; decisions on types of material and which manufacturing processes to use. Project managing, from initial requirements, concept drawings, prototyping, trials, (re-design if required), product and material sourcing and tooling manufacture . Product testing and accreditation. IP protection. Product launch, customer feedback. This role will also involve improvements to existing products and initiating manufacturing cost reductions.
The Product Designer's performance will be measured by the number of new profitable products and services introduced each year.
The Product Designer position will report to the Managing Director, who is currently responsible for all NPD. There is potential to grow and expand the product design department, as the business develops.
Initial salary will be from £28k to £38k pa, depending on experience, plus a profit related bonus.
Required Skills
The Product Designer will be degree or equivalent educated in industrial product design, engineering, polymer science or similar . Some experience of happily working with customers and end-users would be useful.
